United for a Fair Economy
This non-profit organization is working to change our financial systems for the better. From their website: “Our vision is of a global society where prosperity is better shared, where there is genuine equality of opportunity, where the power of concentrated money and corporations neither dominates the economy nor dictates the content of mass culture. We envision communities and nations without disparities of income, wages, wealth, health, safety, respect, and opportunities for recreation and personal growth.”

Kiva
Kiva is an organization that provides a way for individuals to participate in microlending to entrepreneurs in developing countries: “Kiva.org is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to an entrepreneur in the developing world. By combining microfinance with the internet, Kiva.org is creating a global community of people connected through lending. Kiva.org’s mission is to connect people, through lending, for the sake of alleviating poverty.”

Children International
Consider sponsoring a child through Children International. “Over one million impoverished children have been sponsored through Children International, since 1936. Eight out of every ten dollars goes directly to programs, services and tangible benefits for needy children. Currently Children International serves more than 300,000 children in 11 countries. Sponsorship provides vital benefits such as health and dental care, the tools to stay in school, clothing and shoes, housing assistance and nutritional aide. Children International hires only local professionals in agencies around the world, to further create opportunities and jobs for the communities they serve.”
